August 15 Skjoldungen from our balcony

Here are a few pix taken through the window and from our balcony.  There will be many more of those because as of today we have been isolated for 5 days – you guessed it, the dreaded lurgy.  I was OK but Lindsay was feeling pretty rotten. We’re not very happy but it could be so much worse. We had world heritage views and good room service - and wine.
So where were we? Sailing yet further south along Greenland’s King Frederik VI Coast. We woke to a glorious tranquil scene as we entered Skjoldungen fjord. It was a divine day outside – thank goodness for balconies and that we weren’t one deck lower with only a porthole.
You could almost see right through this small berg. Glaciers and icebergs
are often white because they are compressed snow and contains lots of bubbles
The clear and blue stripes are from frozen water. So beautiful.
The ship sailed to the end of the fjord and in the afternoon people went ashore and wandered through thick old-growth forests of Dwarf Birch and a number of species of Willow – all only knee high.  In the meantime, I took oodles of pix and later in the day the sky put on a spectacular display – I have lots of photos of glorious clouds.
Often the camera picks up something the eye misses like the delicate faint rainbow
One of the citizen Science projects was taking observations of the cloud for NASA Globe program. You take photos and make observation in a defined window of timed so they can be compared to what the satellite sees from space. Sadly I could join in the experiment that day but I had a wonderful time photographing the sky,  The clouds were stunning.
