I can’t help but think that our brush with Covid on this trip is payback for managing to escape its clutches over the last 2 years. But fortunately, the gods of Travellers whether Hermes, Mercury, the Norse god Meiji or whoever, are looking after us with a constant panorama of spectacular vistas to soften the disappointment. Just check out this morning! A balmy 6 degrees radiant sunshine, deep cerulean skies fringed with softest white fluff and a calm sea faintly ruffled by a gentle breeze.
The bright sunlight fooled the camera - so it looks like late in the day, it's not. |
That afternoon the ship anchored off from Qaqortoq, the capital of South Greenland and zodiacs shuttled people ashore.

You may wonder how we were ‘convalescing’? Lindsay had been pretty sick the first 2 days of our confinement but quickly improved; I didn’t succumb fortunately. The staff were kept pretty busy delivering meals to quite a number of passengers in isolation. We tried to keep our spirits up but after all the planning etc we had to work hard to quell our disappointment at missing out on a number of days. But we didn’t miss out on seeing a gentle display of fanciful colour as the Aurora Borealis danced all around the ship around midnight. That was magical.
