A slow 5 hour train ride from Oslo through breathtaking scenery brought us to the delightful Voss on the side of a heavenly lake. This was the first day of our ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ tour. The train dropped us right at the door of our hotel - Scandic Voss, on the side of a deep lake; such luxury (and the bulk of our luggage is being delivered to our destination tomorrow).

Lindsay and I dumped our bags and wandered straight out to explore of course. The lake with its backdrop of brooding mountains is hemmed with a profusion of wild flowers - pinks, purples, yellow, white - I was in heaven (pix to come!). And to top it off there were birds fluttering around the shores and across the lake - Lindsay was happy. Wispy skeins  of clouds wound rope-like around the mountains and trailed up to patches of snow - it is gorgeous.  Words escape me when I try to describe what we saw yesterday as we climbed glaciated mountains through tunnels, thick forests of spruce and more, wild flowers and quaint houses sitting isolated on the edge of snow-melt lakes. A true picture postcard experience. I’ll find a way to paint the picture for you but in a nutshell it was breathtaking (note: I will use that word a lot I suspect given my limited lexicon!).https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=19dFqJV155BGG3Pe2PCXW5bJXRURer8Nkhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ap6JY_aP6F5xeABWvYv-LW1_uwwyx-3ahttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1BLCAfRq9n7DaD69DNrhsAO-6dmA-jGgQhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1c1NTHX0pQlhzO4Yv_2HZyH9d_3AMzAPz

The next morning when we came down to breakfast, spread out before us was a veritable banquet fit for a king - smoked and cured salmon, smoked trout, herrings, pate to die for, a platter of cheeses fruits etc etc and an amazing array of hot choices as well as fruit and nutty crusty bread. Food and flowers - I’m in my happy place!
